Protect a seating area with steel fins, they can be installed at any angle depending on how much wind and sight line you wish to block.
The fins are ideal for channelling the view to a vista, screening or simply as a feature in their own right. While they are straightforward in construction, it’s unlikely that onlookers will have seen anything like them.
Supplied separately they can be arranged in straight lines, curves, set at any angle or spacing depending on the degree of screen required. Typically, they are fixed in a Louvre style to allow a partial view through at certain angles. This is useful in the world of design when trying to divide spaces at the same time as allowing glimpses through to tease and encourage further exploration.
Each fin has a baseplate with holes for bolting down to a hard surface such as a narrow concrete footing or existing hard standing.
Made from solid steel, the fins will last over a lifetime. They can be used to add year-round structure or planting scheme. On a practical level, they are ideal for dividing a garden, screening unsightly features or simply as a statement in their own right.

Your steel fins can be installed in any arrangement you wish, straight lines or flowing curves, they can be secured side by side or face to face and every angle in between. We are happy to advise on what would be best for your application.
However you arrange them the fixing method is the same. Each steel fin comes with a fixed, welded plate with 4 holes.
The base plates need to be secured to a solid surface such as concrete. You may need to lay your own concrete base. To do this dig a narrow trench around 30cm wide and 20cm deep and pour in wet concrete, ensure the surface is level and flat. Leave for a week for it to set properly. The image to the right shows a concrete base ready for installation.
Either expanding bolts or resin fixing with a threaded bar. They both have their own advantages.
Expanding bolts (we recommend projecting shield anchor bolts) are quick and simple however if fixing near to the edges of brickwork or concrete, their expansion can result in cracking.
Threaded bar and resin is a little more work but can securely fix into a wider variety and more delicate substrates. This is due to the resin not applying any force to the sides of the hole, and you have the choice of how deep to set the threaded bar.
R-Kem II is our resin of choice with m8 or m10 threaded bar.

If your securing your bolt down plates onto sound surface away from the edges where the expanding bolts can’t crack substrate then they are the way to go largely due to their simplicity.
If there is any doubt then the resin option is the way forward. We go to each job on the assumption the substrate is not perfect and use threaded bar and resin. Providing you have cleaned the drilled hole the resin will form an extremely strong bond.
The fixing method for the resin and anchor bolts is relatively similar and is summarised below.
Firstly set your fins out where you wish to have them permanently secured.
Once positioned drill holes in the concrete using the base plate as a guide. Holes should be around 4mm larger than the threaded bar when resin fixing or the same diameter as the widest part of the shield bolt. The hole should be the same depth as the shield anchor or in the case of resin as deep as is required, the softer the substrate the deeper the hole ideally to ensure a good fix.
If using shield anchor bolts, simply insert them into the drilled holes in the concrete, put the fin in position with the anchor bolt thread protruding through the base plate. Ensure the fin is level then place the washer and nut onto the thread and tighten.
In the case of resin fixing it is important that the drilled holes are cleaned to remove dust etc, use a wire brush and or a blower.
It’s worth getting prepared first with holes drillled and threaded bar ready as resin drying time can be fast. Inject the resin almost the top of the drilled holes, then align the base plate with the holes, push the threaded bar through the base plates into the resin filled holes (wipe any excess resin squeezing out of the holes as you go).
Ensure sure the fin is level, spacers can be used if required. Once the resin is set screw nuts onto the protruding threaded bar and tighten, this can be as little as 10 minutes to half an hour depending on the temperature.
With both methods any excess threaded bar protruding from the nut should be cut off.

Yes, they are secured to a hard base such as concrete. The base plates have pre-drilled holes. Simply drill holes in the concrete to align with those on the base plates and fix the base plates down with expanding bolts or threaded bar and resin. We are happy to advise on any aspect of installation.
We use mild steel, it weathers beautifully, it is durable and has an excellent life span.

Yes, if you wish. We would recommend leaving them to weather naturally though, as this eliminates the need for any maintenance.
There is no maintenance required. You may wish to clean them at times, but it’s not required in order to improve lifespan or functionality.
Yes, this also provide an option for two types of finish. Stick with the standard shiny silver galvanised surface for a contemporary look, or apply an acid wash to dull the galvanised surface giving it an antique, dusty grey finish. We can do this for you or provide images to help you to decide which best fits your scheme.
Yes, they can follow any base to which they are attached. Also consider stepping them. Maybe use a combination of different height fins, so the tops are in a level line despite the stepped ground.
